DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) - Election Commissioner (EC) Abdur Rahmanel Machud today said by-elections to Bogura-6 constituency and polls to Sherpur-3 constituency are likely to be held before April 14 next.

He said the Commission is trying to take all preparations so that the by-elections and election could be held before April 14, Pohela Boishakh.

Talking to reporters at his office in the city’s Agargaon, Machud said, “We are hoping to hold the remaining by-elections and election before Pohela Boishakh as usually storms hit on Boishakh…we hope we will be able to arrange."
Replying to a question about the election for reserved women's seats, he said the voting for reserved women's seats has already begun as it is basically the election of the parties representing the parliament.

“…it is supposed to be accomplished officially within 90 days of the oath-taking and we will do it, Insha Allah," he said.

Asked when the schedule for reserved women's seats will be announced, the commissioner said, “We will announce it soon, within 90 days.”

Recently, the Election Commission published a gazette declaring the Bogura-6 seat vacant.
The EC also postponed the election to Sherpur-3 constituency due to the death of the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
