
CHATTOGRAM, February 22, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today unveiled his plan to develop playgrounds in each of 41 wards across the city to suppress juvenile gang culture.
The mayor came up with the plan while inaugurating three development projects in Ward No. 25 Rampur and Ward No. 26 Uttar Halishahar on Sunday.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain has categorised the juvenile gang culture as a major social problem, noting that it severely spread over the last 16 years throughout the country.
Sports and positive social activities, he mentioned, can prevent the youths from engaging in criminal acts.
He said sports helps build healthy bodies, therefore contributing to healthy minds.
To promote this philosophy, we are working to construct adequate playgrounds. Projects are underway to develop or renovate various playgrounds, including Mohsin College Ground, Baklia School Ground, Bahurupi Ground, Ferozshah Ground in Akbar Shah area, Jamburi Ground near Agrabad Shishu Park and Halishahar BDR Ground. Additionally, plans are in place to develop 41 playgrounds across the city's 41 wards in phases, said the CCC Mayor.
He announced completion of the field development, walkway construction, and ancillary works in the Halishahar H Block Residential Area in Rampur Ward No. 25, costing approximately Tk 1.7 crore. He then inaugurated the construction of a one-kilometer long and 35-feet wide road from Halishahar AC Mosque to Wapda intersection in Rampur Ward No. 25, with an estimated cost of Tk 7 crore.
Additionally, the Mayor inaugurated a bridge over Maheshkhal, measuring 23.70 meters in length and 10.50 meters in width, at a cost of about Tk 12.94 crore.
The event was attended by Brigadier General Sohel Ahmed, Commander of the Chattogram Southeast Region of Border Guard Bangladesh, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of CCC Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, Superintending Engineer (Municipal) Abu Sadat Tayyab and Executive Engineer Anwar Jahan, among others.
