
DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) - Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today called upon all to come forward to build the country collectively under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at a poetry recitation program titled 'Ekusher Kobita' at the National Art Gallery Auditorium here on the occasion of the Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
Nitai Roy said when today's world and its politics are full of conflict, hatred and division, they are dreaming about a new Bangladesh.
“There is no division and disunity, our strength is the humanity and peace of the people,” he said.
Noting that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is leading this dream of building a new Bangladesh, the cultural affairs minister said the government is working against injustice and inequality to build a just, happy and prosperous, dynamic, modern and neutral Bangladesh.
“We have come together for a new change. Looking back, we will see that all the students, people, poets and literary figures, who sacrificed their lives in the July Uprising. I seek forgiveness and peace for their souls. I pay my deepest respects,” he said.
“If we deeply understand the depth and significance that we saw through the July Uprising in our country, then we will see that it was an inevitable outcome and none could deny this inevitability according to the law of destiny,” he added.
Nitai Roy said poetry not only makes people cry, it awakens people. “Poetry makes people fight. Poetry is a powerful statement against injustice and poetry is the name of a protest,” he said.
He also urged poets and writers to come forward to build a prosperous Bangladesh with a flag through harmony and friendship.
State Minister for Culture Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam also spoke as special guest at the event with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed in the chair.
