RANGAMATI, May 16, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today said the present government is committed to promoting the light of education in the hill tracts to ensure balanced development in the region.

“The traditional educational institution Monoghar is acting as a beacon of hope for underprivileged students in the hills,” he said while inaugurating an internationally recognised Japanese Kumon Learning Centre at Monoghar Residential School and College in Rangamati town.

The minister said the Kumon method would help disadvantaged students in remote hill areas improve their mathematical skills and build self-confidence through self-learning and regular practice.

He underscored the need to expand such initiatives to ensure educational opportunities for students in remote areas of the CHT region, adding that the ministry would provide all-out support for the programme.

The Kumon Learning Centre was launched with corporate support from BRAC Kumon Ltd and Mitsubishi United Finance Group (MUFG).

Addressing the function, Dipen Dewan said students from 13 ethnic communities living in the hill tracts should be brought further into mainstream education and socio-economic development.

He also said the Rangamati Hill District Council and the other two hill district councils would be reconstituted soon.

Monoghar Residential School and College Executive Committee President Venerable Sraddhalankar Mahathero chaired the event.

Among others, MUFG Managing Director Kimura Kenji, BRAC Kumon Chief Business Officer Nehal Bin Hasan, JICA Bangladesh Special Adviser Kiyoshi Amada and other distinguished guests attended the programme.

More than 800 students, guardians and representatives from different organisations joined the function.
