Freshers reception, cultural programme held at DU

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) – Mathematics Department of Dhaka University held freshers' reception and cultural programme for the first year undergraduate students at the department building today. 

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest. 

Departmental Chairperson Professor Shapla Shirin chaired the programme while Pirojpur University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, and Dhaka University Mathematics Alumni Association President Dr. Mohammad Tajul Islam spoke as special guests.

Associate Professor Sarkar.  Md. Sohel Rana delivered welcome speech while Mehezabeen Mahua and Riti Raha spoke on behalf of the freshers.

 Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized on making mathematics easy and understandable for the students and said, "Our involvement with mathematics starts from the beginning of our educational life’’. 

The importance of mathematics in personal life is immense as well, he said, adding that mathematics enhances the analytical power and skills of a person. Mathematical knowledge plays an important role in making the right decisions on various issues, he added. 

He said, Dhaka University provides students opportunities to participate in various co-curricular activities including sports and cultural activities. He called upon the students to avail the most of these facilities and develop themselves as skilled, capable and responsible citizen. In the second part of the event, a cultural programme was held with participation of students of the department.
