HRW delegation visits disappearance commission chief

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) – A delegation of Human Rights Watch (HRW), led by Elaine Pearson, Asia Director of the renowned human rights group met  Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, head of Disappearance Commission at its office today.

 During the meeting with HRW two-member delegation at commission’s Gulshan office, Justice Chowdhury welcomed them and briefed on the commission’s activities.

 The HRW representatives expressed deep concern after hearing distressing accounts of human rights violations in Bangladesh. They emphasized the need for proper investigations and justice for cases of enforced disappearances, human rights abuses, and extrajudicial killings.  

The HRW delegation, arrived on January 26, will stay in Bangladesh till January 30. The meeting was part of their ongoing engagements with various stakeholders in the country.
