CHATTOGRAM, Jan 31, 2025 (BSS) – Adviser to housing, public works and industries ministries Adilur Rahman said irregularities, corruption and looting of huge money in the name of canal digging in Chattogram were taken place during the Awami League (AL) government.

“The economic situation was made very bad. We are trying to rescue it from there. This year, the government has allocated Tk 10 crore for digging 21 canals in Chattogram city,” said Adilur Rahman while addressing as chief guest the inauguration ceremony of canal-dredging and cleaning activities in a one-kilometer area after inspecting the canal digging activities at Baraipara in Bahaddarhat and Sunnia Madrasa in Sholashahar on Friday.

City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain briefed him on the progress of the canal digging work.

Then the advisor inspected the progress of Baklia Agricultural Canal excavation work by Chattogram City Corporation and the water logging relief project being implemented by Chattogram Development Authority.

"For many years in the past, no steps were taken for dredging rivers, canals and removing water-logging in the city. Every year, Chattogram city goes under water. We are trying to restore free-flow of water through canals, sea and rivers here,” said Adilur Rahman Khan.
