Army to probe death of civilian in Cumilla

DHAKA, Feb 01, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Army has taken steps to investigate into the unexpected and sad death of a civilian in Cumilla on January 31 last, an ISPR press release today said. 

The release said, Towhidul Islam, 40 was detained in a joint force drive on specific allegation from Adarsha Sadar Upazila around 3 am on January 31 and died at 12.30 pm on the same day at Cumilla Medical College Hospital. 

“Proper steps were taken to probe into the unexpected and sad death,” ISPR said adding that in the meantime, the commander of the army camp has been withdrawn instantly.

Beside, a high-powered committee has been formed to uncover the exact cause of death. Legal action will be taken in accordance with the army law against the persons to be found guilty for the incident, it added.
