Dhaka, Feb 6, 2025 (2025)- Citizens Bank has contributed Taka 10 lakh to the Dhaka University basketball team as the team is heading to attend four day long ‘Open University Men's 3x3 International Basketball Championship 2024’ starting on February 10 at Kathmandu, Nepal.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Bank Mohammad Masoom handed over the cheque to DU VC Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan this evening at a ceremony at the Vice Chancellor's meeting room.

Prof. Niaz Ahmed thanked the bank authorities to come up with such cooperation and said, “We are truly pleased with Citizens Bank’s initiative. Due to financial constraints, we have been unable to provide adequate support for the team. Institutions like ours cannot solely rely on government funding—we need to move forward with support from society”.

“DU alumni are spread across the world, and many of them are part of Citizens Bank. We hope that not only Citizens Bank but other organizations will also come forward to help us move forward”, he added.

This is not just an economic cooperation but a symbol of the establishment of trust, said Professor Niaz.

Citizens Bank’s MD Mohammad Masoom said despite being a relatively new bank with its own limitations, they were proud to contribute to the sports sector. “We are trying to support sports within our capacity, and the contribution is a part of that effort. We hope the team performs well, and we will continue to contribute to such initiatives in the future,” he said.

DU Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Citizens Bank Company Secretary Md. Wahid Imam, Dhaka University Journalists Association president Mohiuddin Muzahid Mahi, Acting Director of the DU Physical Education Center S.M. Zakaria and DU basketball team captain Rafiul Haque Rafi , among others, were also present on the occasion.
