DHAKA, Feb 12, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today said utmost importance will be given to the investigation of the cases linked with the July-August anti-discrimination student-people uprising. 
 
"Cases filed in connection with the anti-discrimination movement will be investigated with the highest priority," he said while addressing the monthly crime review meeting (for January) at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh here today. 
 
The DMP chief said that the nationwide joint forces' 'Operation Devil Hunt' has been launched to bring those involved in various crimes under the law.
 
"Those who were involved in various crimes, including enforced disappearances, looting, extortion and killings, during the student-people movement in July-August and in the last 15 years must be brought to book," he said. 
 
Sazzat asked the police officers under the DMP to work with utmost sincerity and professionalism to maintain law and order in Dhaka metropolis.
 
"More efforts must be made to arrest robbers and extortionists. DMP police stations and outposts must play a more active role," he said. 
 
Along with progress in case investigation, the rate of case disposal should be increased. More efforts should be made in drug recovery and executing warrants, he added.
 
The commissioner said that the biggest problem in Dhaka city is traffic congestion. 
 
Mentioning that various public and private organizations are blocking roads to press home their demands, he said, "This practice of blocking roads to realize demands must be stopped."
 
The DMP chief gave various directions to the Traffic Division to work on controlling over speed of vehicles.
 
Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar and Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam also spoke on the occasion. 
 
Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain presented information related to the overall crime situation in the month of January 2025. 
 
Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, Officers-in-Charge of all DMP police stations and police officers of various ranks were present at the crime review meeting.
