July-August martyr Hasan's body identified after seven months

DHAKA, Feb 12, 2025 (BSS) - Almost a month after the report on the discovery of unidentified bodies of six July-August mass uprising martyrs at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue, by a team of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, one of the martyrs was finally identified.

Confirming the matter to BSS, Hasan Enam, secretary of the special cell on July mass uprising of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said one of the martyrs was identified as Hasan, who was killed on August 5.

"After our discovery of the bodies at the morgue on January 10, Hasan's family identified his body primarily. His father gave DNA sample to Criminal Investigation Department for cross matching after taking permission from the court. After one month, the result of the DNA cross-matching came positive today," Hasan Enam said.

The body will be handed over to his family through the Jatrabari Police Station.

A team of the special cell on July mass uprising during their investigation came to know about those six unidentified bodies at DMCH forensic morgue on January 10.

The details of the bodies are as follows: unidentified male, 20, unidentified male, 25, unidentified male, 22, unidentified female, 32, unidentified male, 30, and one Enamul, 25.

Doctors have conducted autopsy on the bodies and found that the first five died from injuries, while Enamul died after falling from a height.

"We have talked to police regarding the identification of the bodies. Shahbagh police said they died during the anti-discrimination movement. But police could not confirm the exact time of their death or when their bodies were brought to DMCH," Hasan Enam said at the time.
