Dhaka, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)
Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today stressed the need for strictly
maintaining the traffic rules to maintain order on the road and check
road accidents.

“To maintain order on the roads and prevent road crashes, everyone
should strictly follow traffic rules,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the concluding
ceremony of the two-day workshop held at the InterContinental Hotel
here.

The DMP Commissioner said that many road users do not follow traffic
rules.

To prevent road crashes, he directed the police members to strictly
implement the existing laws, including speed limits, on the roads.

“Most road crashes in Dhaka city occur between midnight and morning
when the roads are relatively empty,” he said.

Sazzat also said that training is essential to enhance the skills of the
police members.

The DMP Commissioner suggested involving traffic police in the
investigation of the road accidents rather the cops of the police stations to
ensure proper investigation.

Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) -- an
international network committed to reducing road crashes, deaths and
injuries -- conducted the two-day workshop that ended today.

The first day of the two-day workshop focused on ‘Road Policing
Leadership’ and the second day on ‘Speed as a Risk Factor in Road
Crashes’.  As many as 60 police officers participated in the workshop.
