DHAKA, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) – The government has lifted the police verification system prior to issuing passport for simplifying services and easing the sufferings of the people.

The Security Service Division today issued a gazette notification to this end.

“Bangladesh has a well-organised and reliable database of its nationals. So, passport can be issued on the basis of the National Identity Cards (NIDs) to simplify the passport services,” the notification said.

Passport can be issued against underage persons on the basis of their birth registration certificates, the notification said.

“The police verification will not be required if the information of the database matches with the information provided in the application,” it said.

The government has instructed the authorities concerned to issue passport against the new applicants after online scrutiny of the information shown in the NIDs.

It also said passport can also be issued to the underage people residing abroad on the basis of their birth registration certificates.
