Dr. Kathak Das placed on fresh 3 day remand

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court here today placed Dr. Kathak Das, a follower of expelled ISKCON organizer Chinmoy Das Brahmachari on another three-day remand on charge of attacking joint forces in city’s Hazari Gali on Novmber 5 last. 

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam granted the remand for interrogating him after hearing of the cas, said Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, Assistant Public Prosecutor.

According to the case statement, Osman Goni, a shop owner of city’s Hazari Gali Mia Shopping Center, posted a post about the Hindu religious organization ISKCON on Facebook. 

This created tension among the local Sanatan religious followers on November 5 last year. Later, the aggrieved people thronged in front of the market at night and started agitation around the shop. 

As the police tried to take away Osman, the Sanatan community members became agitated. It was alleged that at one stage of the demonstration they chased the police and threw bricks, stones and acid on the members of the joint force.
 
Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman filed a case in this connection, mentioning name 49 people and accusing unnamed 500 to 600 others on November 6, 2024.

Dr. Kathak Das was detained by the immigration police on February 5 last when trying to travel to the UK via Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. 
He was later handed over to Chattogam Metropolitan Police.
 
Dr. Kathak Das, an ophthalmologist and a phaco surgeon by profession was serving at Lions Charity Eye Hospital and Bangladesh Eye Hospital.
