RANGPUR, Feb 18, 2025 (BSS) - Two dormitories of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) were renamed in separate ceremonies held at the respective hall premises on the campus on Monday afternoon.

Vice-Chancellor of the Varsity Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali, along with Shahid Abu Sayeed's Father Maqbul Hossain, Shahid Felani Khatun's Father Nur Islam and Mother Jahanara Begum inaugurated the renaming ceremonies of the dormitories.

Shahid Felani's Father Nur Islam and Mother Jahanara Begum inaugurated the new name of “Shaheed Felani Hall” by cutting a ribbon.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that Shahid Felani of Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram district was one of those innocent people of Bangladesh, who have been shot dead by neighboring country’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the border.

He thanked the students and syndicate members for proposing and implementing the proposal to name a hall of the university after Felani Khatun, the representative of those countless innocent people killed on the border by BSF.

He said, “Through renaming of the residential hall, generations after generations will remember Felani with due respect.”

Provost of Shaheed Felani Hall, Dr. Md. Sifat Rumana, along with the Assistant Provost and the students of the hall were present on the occasion.

Later, the Bijoy 24 Hall was inaugurated by Shaheed Abu Sayeed's Father, Maqbul Hossain by cutting a ribbon in a function held at the hall premises.

The Vice-Chancellor while speaking on the occasion said that Bijoy 24 Hall has been renamed to remember the role played by countless young people, including Shaheed Abu Sayeed, in the July-August Uprising through making supreme sacrifice.

Among others, Provost of Bijoy 24 Hall Md. Amir Sharif, along with the Assistant Provost and students were present on the occasion.

In light of the students' demands, the two halls of the university were renamed following the decision taken in the 110th meeting of the Syndicate held on February 8, 2025.
