JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, March 9, 2025 (BSS) - The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed the International Women's Day today in a befitting manner.

Marking the day, a colourful rally was brought out from the university's Central Shaheed Minar, led by JU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan at around 10am.

The rally paraded important roads on the campus and ended at the premises of Zahir Raihan Auditorium. Following the rally, a discussion was held at the seminar room of the auditorium.

With Prof Dr Abeda Sultana in the chair, JU VC Prof Kamrul Ahsan attended the programme as chief guest and academic and political analyst Prof Dr Dilara Choudhury presented the keynote paper.

Addressing the session, Prof Kamrul Ahsan said, "Women and men are complementary to each other. A woman is incomplete without a man and a man is blind without a woman. To succeed, we must move forward together."

"In a patriarchal society, women are subjected to devaluation. We demand equal participation of men and women in all sectors guaranteed by the country's constitution. If we look at the revolutions in many countries all over the world, we can see women's participation was spontaneous," said Prof Dilara Choudhury.

Speaking at the discussion, Prof Dr Shamima Sultana stressed the need for concerted efforts of both men and women to develop a prosperous society.

She said, "Women are the soul of a nation. Without honouring the soul, the state cannot prosper, and a healthy society cannot be built. We have to make joint effort by both women and men in building the nation,"

JU Pro-VC Prof Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, Treasurer Prof Dr Abdur Rob, Director of Students Counselling and Guidance Centre Prof Jamal Uddin and Ladies Club President Kamrun Nesa Khondokar spoke at the event, among others.
