11.95 lakh people get Legal aid at govt expense

DHAKA, April 19, 2025 (BSS) -Legal aid has been provided to 11, 95,075 people at government expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (Legal Aid).

This information has been disclosed in a report published on the website of the National Legal Aid Services Organization.

The report highlighted detailed information on legal aid provided through the National Legal Aid Services Organization from 2009 to March 2025.

The report stated that legal aid has been provided to indigent litigants in 4, 21,364 cases. 

It stated that during this period, legal aid has been provided to 28,837 people through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 9, 50,823 people through the Legal Aid Offices of 64 districts of the country and 29,147 people through the Dhaka and Chittagong Workers' Legal Aid Cells at government expense under the organization. 

Government legal aid services were provided to 1, 86,268 people through the National Helpline Call Center '16430' (toll-free).

These services were provided at government expense under the Legal Aid Services Act, 2000 with the aim of providing legal aid to the financially indigent and incompetent people seeking justice in the country.

The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are carried out under the Law & Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
