DHAKA, May 6, 2025 (BSS) - BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman's wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman visited her ailing mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, a Swadhinata Padak recipient social worker, at a hospital at Panthapath in the capital this evening.

Iqbal Mand Banu has been undergoing treatment at the private hospital since May 2, BNP media cell member Atiqur Rahman Ruman said.

"Zubaida's family members were with her. She was seen very excited (to see her mother). She gave a bouquet to her mother," he said.

She could not see her mother in person due to living abroad with her husband Tarique Rahman for 17 years, Ruman said.

Zubaida Rahman today returned home along with her mother-in-law BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia who went to London for medical treatment in early January.
She left the country with her husband Tarique Rahman 17 years ago on September 11, 2008.

After the one-eleven changeover, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested Tarique Rahman. It also filed a case against Tarique Rahman, Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu with the capital's Kafrul Police Station.

A Dhaka court sentenced Zubaida Rahman to three years in prison and a fine of Tk 3.5 million in that case.

Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, a prominent social worker and wife of former Bangladesh Navy chief Rear Admiral Late Mahbub Ali Khan, has been suffering from various old-age complications for long.

She used to work for the underprivileged children of the country through the 'Suravi Foundation'. For this, she received the Swadhinata Padak in 1995.
