DHAKA, May 28, 2025 (BSS) - ATM Azharul Islam, former acting secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, was given a brief reception at a temporary stage at Shahbagh intersection this morning following his release from prison.

The event was not a formal meeting but a simple arrangement to convey the sentiments of the recently released leader. Following this, a subsequent view-exchange meeting was held at Alafalah auditorium in Moghbazar, said Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

Earlier, Jamaat leader Azharul Islam was released from jail this morning, a day after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court acquitted him in a case over crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

He had been in jail since August 23, 2012, following his arrest in connection with the charges.
