DHAKA, May 28, 2025 (BSS) – Agriculture and Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today said the government is actively working to expand mango export considering the huge demand for this summer fruit internationally.

The adviser made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at an event marking the formal inauguration of mango export at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium in the capital’s Farmgate, according to a PID handout.

He mentioned project is being implemented aimed at increasing mango production and exports, ensuring farmers receive necessary agricultural incentives.

“To support growers, improved mango seedlings will be made available at reduced prices through horticulture centers, with directives given to boost seedling production through incentive programmes,” he added.

Stressing the need to safeguard farmers’ interests, the adviser called for efforts to ensure fair pricing for their produce. He noted that despite a decline in agricultural land, research institutions have significantly increased crop yields across various sectors.

The adviser underscored the importance of research institutions focusing on technology development and varietal improvements to enhance mango cultivation. When farmers and exporters raised concerns over bagging, packaging, transportation, and incentives, he assured them that steps would be taken to address these challenges.

With Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian in the chair, the event was joined by Additional Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Saiful Alam, and Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim.

Some 13 tons of mangoes are being shipped today to the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain.
