Journalist Sohel Manzur dies

DHAKA, July 21, 2025 (BSS) – Eminent journalist Sohel Manzur, Publisher and Editor of the News Times, died of cardiac arrest at his residence in the city’s Mohammadpur area today.

He was 58.

He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Mohammadpur. He will be buried at his village home in Rangpur.

Sohel Manzur was also an adviser of Journalism and Media Studies Department of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST).

A former student of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University (DU), Sohel worked for different media outlets including the Daily Star, The Financial Express and bdnews24.com in different capacities during his long career in the profession.

ADUST Board of Trustee Chairman Shamsul Alam Liton, member secretary Md Kamruzzaman Litu and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam expressed profound shock and sorrows at the death of Sohel Manzur.

Besides, Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) President Doulat Akther and General Secretary Abul Kashem also expressed deep shock and sorrows at the death of Sohel Manzur.

In separate condolence message, they prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
