Investigation begins into violence at NCP program in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - The investigation commission, formed by the Cabinet Division, has commenced its inquiry into the incidents of violence that occurred during the National Citizen Party (NCP) program in Gopalganj.

Members of the commission disclosed this at a press briefing held Tuesday evening at the conference room of the Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner's office.

Earlier in the day, the six-member commission, led by former Justice Dr. Md. Abu Tariq, Head of the Investigation Commission, visited several key locations affected by the violence. These included the vandalized Gopalganj District Jail, the site in Ulpur of Sadar Upazila where a police vehicle was set ablaze, the NCP rally venue at the Poura Park and the residence of the Deputy Commissioner, which was also attacked.

During the visit, commission members talked with local residents from various professions to gather firsthand accounts.

The commission also includes Additional Secretary of the Law and Justice Division Md. Saiful Islam, Brigadier General Shahidur Rahman Osmani, Director of the Central Police Hospital and Additional Inspector General of Police Sardar Nurul Amin and Chairman of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Dhaka Dr Sazzad Siddiqui.

Additional Secretary of the Public Security Division Md. Mahabubur Rahman, also a member of the commission, told the briefing that the investigation would continue on Wednesday.

He affirmed that the final report would be submitted promptly and made public by the government.
