DHAKA, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana today called upon the officials and employees of the Press Information Department (PID) to be more active on social media and digital platforms to combat misinformation and rumors.
PID is serving as the main driving force in promoting the state's policies, development programs, and achievements, and must continue to fulfill this responsibility with dedication and professionalism in the future, she said.
The secretary made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion and view-exchange meeting at the PID conference room, organized with the aim of making the department's activities more visible.
Principal Information Officer Md. Nizamul Kabir chaired the event.
Highlighting PID's role as very crucial in disseminating the government's pro-people programs to the countrymen, she said that those who accurately convey the government's messages to the public are the primary driving force.
Being active on digital and social media platforms is a demand of the time now, she added.
Mahbuba Farjana also noted that misinformation and rumors are spreading rapidly across various platforms, urging the officials that, "You must act as the skilled force against misinformation. The Ministry of Information's work, the government's policy decisions, and development activities must be quickly disseminated through social media."
Addressing the officials, she further said, "You are trained, educated, and skilled. The groups spreading misinformation are small, and in most cases, uneducated or unaware of the government's work. Compared to them, you are far more qualified."
About creating news and content, the information secretary said that it is not enough to present statistics alone rather aspects of real change in people's lives must be highlighted also.
She emphasized the importance of using multimedia content, short videos, live coverage, and timely storytelling techniques.
She told the young officials and employees that, "You are young stars. You can definitely do it. Improve the quality of publicity and promotion. Enhance the quality of writing and speaking. Every news item should be a vivid portrayal of the government's success."
The information secretary added, "News is not just information, it is the foundation of trust. Truthful reporting must be ensured. We want to build a country free from discrimination by fostering trust through information."
