BNACWC imparts training to Ctg Customs officials on chemical identification

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - A team of experts formed by the Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) visited the chemical lab of Chattogram Customs and provided required training to the relevant people to ensure quick release of the scheduled chemicals and ensure related safety.
 
The daylong training was arranged for providing theoretical and practical training on the identification of scheduled chemicals and all related problems and solutions to the respective officials and employees of Chittagong Customs and Chittagong Port on Tuesday, according to an ISPR press release issued today.

Earlier on August 11, the expert team also inspected the chemical lab of Chattogram Customs. 
 
A total of 13 people from the Armed Forces Division, various ministries and organizations, including Chittagong Customs Commissioner Mohammad Shafi Uddin, participated in inspection and training led by BNACWC Member Secretary Commodore Mohammad Mohabbat Ali.
 
Six customs officials and 28 trainees (20 from Chittagong Customs, 5 from Chittagong Port and 3 from Naval Weapons Inspection Organization) took part in the training.
 
In the interest of the overall security of the country, the main entry point for the import of scheduled chemicals, in order to ensure the rapid identification of the goods by the customs during their unloading at Chittagong Port and the overall security before handing them over to the importer, it was felt that there was a need to modernize the chemical lab of Chittagong Customs and train the concerned persons, the ISPR press release added. 
 
The participating trainees expressed their opinion that this training workshop will play an effective role in preventing risks.
 
In addition, all concerned expressed their hope that with the coordinated efforts of all concerned, it will be possible to quickly release scheduled chemicals in Bangladesh and ensure related safety.
