DHAKA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) — Land Ministry Senior Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed has revealed that 59.7 percent of the country's total land is currently classified as agricultural land.

He said this during a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Working Committee tasked with finalizing the draft of the proposed "Land Zoning and Agricultural Land Protection Ordinance, 2025," held at the land ministry today.

Highlighting the urgency of structured land use, the senior secretary said, “Our land is limited, its value is high. Therefore, we must ensure its proper utilization.”

He added that there is 17.4 percent of forest land while 20 percent is classified as wetland.

“In this context, the Land Zoning and Agricultural Land Protection Ordinance is essential to secure our future food needs,” he emphasized.
