DHAKA, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam, after the crimes against humanity case verdict against Sheikh Hasina and two others, said that any court in the world would have delivered the same punishment if presented with the evidence submitted in the case.
The ICT-1 earlier in the day convicted and sentenced ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July Mass Uprising, holding them guilty under the doctrine of superior command responsibility.
Expressing his satisfaction over the judgment, the ICT chief prosecutor said that with this verdict, Bangladesh has proven its capacity to try complex crimes such as crimes against humanity while maintaining all international norms and standards.
“Bangladesh has done this successfully. This verdict has proven that no matter how powerful or influential a person is, they are not above the law,” he added.
The three-member panel, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, delivered the verdict after finding the three accused guilty on multiple charges.
The tribunal also found former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun guilty, but awarded him a "lenient sentence" of five years' imprisonment for making a full disclosure of the events and cooperating with investigators as an approver.
