Schoolboy drowns in Shariatpur

SHARIATPUR, March 14, 2026 (BSS) - A schoolboy drowned while bathing in the Kirtinasha River in Jajira upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Siam, 10, son of expatriate Mahbub Madbar from Bhanu Munshi Kandi area under Jajira union of the upazila. Siam was a fourth-grade student at Bhanu Munshi Government Primary School.

According to local sources, Siam went to the river to bathe with his grandmother. While bathing, he accidentally slipped into a deep part of the river and went underwater. Realizing the situation, his grandmother began shouting for help, drawing the attention of nearby people.

Local residents after an extensive search rescued Siam and took him to a local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Jajira Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Rahman Howlader confirmed the matter and expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
