DHAKA, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS)- Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has said the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy should treat all forms of arts including music, theatre, painting, photography and film production equally to make the academy country’s capital hub of art and culture.
“I have always been critical about the Shilpakala Academy as I feel like that the academy never treated all forms of art with equal importance. As a result the academy couldn’t become the hub of all forms of Art. The academy should treat all forms of art equally to make this academy as the centre point of art and culture,” the adviser said.
The adviser was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 24th Nobin Shilpi Charukola Prodorshoni-2025 organized by the Fine Arts department of the academy at its National Art Gallery auditorium this evening
Director General of the academy poet Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin was in the chair while director of academy Abdul Halim Chanchal delivered the welcoming speech.
Prof. Abdus Sattar and Prof. Mostafizul Haque spoke as special guests at the event.
Highlighting the recent development of the Shilpakala Academy, Farooki said, there was no separate film department for a long time in the academy. It started work together with the theatre department. Now, restructuring works are going on to build separate department.
Regarding the art exhibition, Farooki said, “Competitions are inspiring and challenging as well for the artistes. Awards can motivate one, but lack of recognition should not be a reason to be depressed.”
He urged the academy to establish a culture to arrange exhibitions and events more frequently to hunt hidden talents.
After the discussion the adviser inaugurated the exhibition by cutting ribbon of the art gallery.
About 681 artistes, aging between 21-35 years submitted 1,393 artworks for the exhibition. Out of which the jury board selected 215 artworks of 191 artistes for the final exhibition.
The exhibition will remain open from 11 am to 8 pm for the visitors every day before fall of its curtain on December 22.
