Cold wave in 17 districts, forecasted dense fog

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2026 (BSS) - A cold wave has been sweeping over 17 districts of the country and moderate to dense fog may occur in some parts across the country, weather officials said here today.  

Air traffic, inland water transport and road communication throughout the country may temporarily be disrupted due to the dense fog, the met office said in a forecast for the next 24 hours commencing from 9:00 am today.

The districts facing cold wave are Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Cumilla, Khulna, Satkhira, Jashore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Barishal and Bhola. 

It further said night temperatures across the country may rise slightly while day temperatures may increase by one to two degrees Celsius. The weather over the country may remain dry with temporarily partly cloudy sky.

Regarding the synoptic condition, it said that an extended portion of the sub-continental high pressure ridge lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas. The seasonal low pressure is located over the South Bay of Bengal, with its extension stretching up to the Northeast Bay of Bengal.

Yesterday, the country’s highest temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius in Teknaf. Today, the lowest temperature was recorded at 7.8 degrees Celsius in Jashore.

At 6:00 am, the relative humidity in Dhaka was 95 percent and the winds may blow from the north or northwest at a maximum speed of five to 10 kilometers per hour.

In Dhaka, today’s sunset will be at 5:22 pm and tomorrow’s sunrise at 6:42 am.
