24.30 lakh mosque-based madrasa students get textbooks

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2026 (BSS)- Around 24.30 lakh students have got text book under the Mosque Based Child and Mass Education Project on the first day of the new year.

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain today inaugurated the Textbook distribution Programme-2026 at the Islamic Foundation auditorium at Agargaon.

A total of 34.36 lakh text books were distributed under Mosque Based Child and Mass Education Project (8th Phase) throughout the country aiming to develop ethics and religious values.
 
Special assistants to Chief Adviser Professor Ali Riaz, Monir Haider and religious affairs secretary M Kamal Uddin spoke on the occasion as special guests while Islamic Foundation Director General Abdus Salam Khan was in the chair.

Religious Affairs Adviser said the officials of the religious affairs ministry had worked extremely to approve the project, adding that the project has been approved through completing various bureaucratic processes.

Necessary initiative will be taken to transfer the project into the revenue sector, the adviser added.

Highlighting various initiatives undertaken for the welfare of the Islamic scholars, Dr Khalid Hossain said the Islamic scholars will get post doctoral scholarship through the Islamic Foundation.

Imams and Islamic scholars having post graduate degree on Islamic affairs will be eligible for the scholarship.

This scholarship will be given to study post doctoral degree on Islamic affairs under different reputed universities across the world and the government is making required financial arrangement to this end.

Moreover, the adviser said the government will give reception centrally to those Islamic scholars who have special contribution for the welfare of Islam across the country.

Dr Khalid said demi-official (DO) letter has been issued to the four ministries for taking necessary initiative to introduce Master’s degree (Islamic Studies and Arabic) course under Qawmi Madrasa.

The rules have already been revised for providing marriage register license to the master’s degree holders.

Successful discussion was also held with the Chief Adviser for posting of the master’s degree holders at different offices and agencies under the Ministry of Defense as Khatib, Imam and religious teacher. 

No nepotism and corruption will be allowed in manpower recruitment, the religious affairs adviser said all the activities including recruitment and promotion will be done with extreme transparency, accountability and following the rules and regulations.

Education on religious values and ethics and Quran will be given more than 145 lakh students of pre-primary level in phases under the project, he said.
