SYLHET, March 6, 2026 (BSS) - Commerce, Industries and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today directed law enforcement agencies to take immediate and effective action to stop criminal activities following deep concern over two specific snatching incidents in Sylhet.

The Minister issued these directives while addressing a ceremony as the chief guest for the foundation stone-laying of an infrastructure project at the Khojarkhola Markaz Jame Mosque in South Surma.

Muktadir joined the programme via video conference to inaugurate the construction of a new ablution centre and toilet facilities at the mosque.

During his speech, Muktadir expressed deep concern regarding the two recent snatching incidents, noting with regret that these crimes took place over a short period, including incidents occurring during broad daylight.

Emphasising that such a situation is entirely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated in any way, Muktadir provided explicit instructions to law enforcement members to do whatever is necessary to meet public expectations and ensure the prevention of such crimes to restore security in the region.

Muktadir also made a direct appeal to the citizens of Sylhet to assist in maintaining public safety by remaining vigilant within their respective neighbourhoods.

He urged residents to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the authorities without delay by using the 999 emergency number.

The Minister stated that such cooperation from the public would serve as the primary tool for law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action against criminals.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by special guests Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Koyes Lodi, General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury and Khojarkhola Panchayat Committee President Ajmol Ali.
