92 new books hit Amar Ekushey Book Fair on 8th day

DHAKA, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 92 new books arrived on the 8th day of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair today as the fair began at 2:00 pm and continued until 9:00 pm.

A discussion titled "Birth Centenary: Sukanta Bhattacharya" was held at the main stage of the fair at 3:00 pm with poet Abdul Hye Sikder in the chair.

Abdul Hye Sikder said poet Sukanta Bhattacharya was a worthy successor to Bangladesh's National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in protesting against imperialism, colonialism, and social injustice. Sukanta's protest verses have been repeatedly quoted in various struggles and movements of Bangladesh, he said.

At the "Lekhok Bolchi" (Authors Speak) session, Shilpakala Academy Director General poet Rezauddin Stalin and poet Asad Kajal discussed their books.

A cultural programme was held at 4:00 pm where Shobha Chowdhury recited poetry.

The fair will begin at 11:00 am tomorrow and continue until 9:00 pm. A special Children's Hour will be held at the fair.

A discussion titled "Birth Centenary: Kalim Sharafi" will be held at the main stage at 3:00 pm. Anima Roy will present the keynote paper, while Saim Rana will take part in the discussion. Sadhan Ghosh will preside over the event. A cultural programme will follow at 4:00 pm.
