Fire brought under control in Keraniganj factory blaze; five dead

DHAKA Apr 4, 2026 (BSS) - A devastating fire at a tin-shed factory producing gas lighters in the Kadamtali Gol Chattar area of Keraniganj has left at least five people dead. 

The blaze was brought under control at 4:44 pm.

According to Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) media officer Anwarul Islam, the fire broke out around 1:11 pm on Saturday. 

Upon receiving the information, multiple firefighting units rushed to the scene and began efforts to contain the flames.

So far, five bodies have been recovered from the factory, though their identities and genders could not be immediately confirmed.


Officials said a search operation is still ongoing to locate any missing persons.


A total of seven firefighting units worked to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.


The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have yet to be determined.
