DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has achieved a
major milestone in T20 cricket by becoming the highest wicket-taker amongst
the left-arm pacers in the format.
The landmark came during a recent match in the Pakistan Super League (PSL),
where Mustafizur, adorably called as 'The Fizz' picked up two wickets against
Multan Sultans.
His 2-37 was instrumental in Lahore Qalandars' 20-run win over Multan
Sultans.
After the match-winning performance, his total T20 wicket tally rose to 416,
surpassing his long-time idol Mohammad Amir.
Amir, who previously held the record, has 414 wickets from 356 matches. In
contrast, Mustafizur reached the milestone in just 325 matches, highlighting
his efficiency and impact in the format.
Earlier in the tournament, Mustafizur moved into second place by overtaking
another Pakistani left-arm pacer, Wahab Riaz, who has 413 T20 wickets.
Despite losing the top spot, Amir remains in contention as he continues to
feature in the PSL for Rawalpindi. So far, the 33-year-old has taken two
wickets in two matches, while Mustafizur has claimed four wickets in three
games, suggesting that the race between the two is far from over.
As far as International Cricket is concerned, Mustafizur has also made
significant contributions. Out of his 416 wickets, 158 have come in T20
internationals-the highest by any Bangladeshi bowler. He achieved this
milestone in September last year by eclipsing Shakib Al Hasan.
However, Shakib still leads in overall recognized T20 wickets by a
Bangladeshi bowler, with 507 to his name. With limited recent appearances,
the 39-year-old's lead may be under threat as Mustafiz continues his upward
trend.
Globally, Mustafiz currently ranks seventh in total T20 wickets.
Afghanistan's Rashid Khan leads the chart with an impressive 703 wickets.
