DHAKA, Mar 28, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today launched a special cleanliness and mosquito extermination campaign across 536 educational institutions to prevent dengue infections among students.

DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan inaugurated the campaign titled "Clean School, No Mosquito" this morning at Dhaka Residential Model School and College.

The initiative comes as the risk of Aedes mosquito breeding and spread has increased significantly in various buildings and courtyards, including offices, courts, schools, and colleges, following the extended Eid holidays.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the administrator said the monsoon season is approaching, and the risk of dengue outbreaks will rise accordingly. "We must prepare now," he emphasised.

"School and college campuses are reopening after a long closure. This programme has been undertaken with special focus on preventing Aedes mosquito breeding in these premises," he said.

Shafiqul further said that awareness about mosquito-borne diseases must be heightened, adding that the corporation aims to build a liveable, mosquito-free, and odour-free city.

DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury said prolonged school closures have led to cleanliness issues in many areas. "This special programme has been taken to ensure the health of students, keeping in mind the future of our country," he noted.

A target has been set to complete the cleanup of all 536 schools, colleges, and madrasas under DNCC within three days.

As part of the initiative, all possible breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes will be eliminated. Additionally, larviciding and adult mosquito extermination measures will be carried out in and around school premises, including closed classrooms. Students will also receive necessary guidance to raise awareness about Aedes mosquitoes and dengue prevention.
