HABIGANJ, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 326,475 children in the district are set to receive the measles-rubella vaccine as part of an extensive vaccination campaign beginning on April 20.

The vaccination drive will continue until May 10, targeting children across 78 unions and 2 municipalities in the district's 9 upazilas.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Habiganj Civil Surgeon's Office today, where local health authorities provided key details about the initiative.

Civil Surgeon Dr Ratnadeep Biswas, along with Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mukhlisur Rahman Ujjal, addressed the media on the importance of the vaccination and the operational strategies.

Dr Biswas emphasized that the primary focus of the campaign would be children under the age of 5, with 32,970 students from various educational institutions also included in the target group.

Despite a recent report showing that only 7 children out of 103 tested positive for measles, the health department stressed that no fatalities have been recorded from the disease so far.

In preparation for the large-scale immunization effort, the district has established 1,913 temporary vaccination centers and 11 permanent centers.

A dedicated team of 252 vaccinators, 252 supervisors, and 504 volunteers will be deployed to ensure the smooth execution of the campaign.

Representatives from the Habiganj Press Club, including President Mohammad Nahij and former President Golam Mostafa Rafique, along with local media outlets, were present at the event.
