SANGSAD BHABAN, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - Parliament today congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for being named among the world's 100 most influential people in TIME Magazine.

Chief Whip Nurul Islam moved the congratulatory motion during a point of order before the House was adjourned, with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal presiding over the sitting.

In his remarks, the Chief Whip said the people of the country had elected Tarique Rahman to parliament through a landslide victory and his global recognition in TIME Magazine further brought honour to the nation.

He said the New York-based weekly published the list on Wednesday, which is a matter of pride for the country.

He also noted that after returning to the country following a long period abroad, the Prime Minister inspired public confidence and led the party to electoral victory in the national polls.

The Chief Whip added that the government had already begun implementing key electoral pledges shortly after assuming office.

Following the motion, the Deputy Speaker acknowledged the greeting and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the Jatiya Sangsad.

TIME Magazine recently listed Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman among its 100 most influential people of 2026 under the "leaders" category, alongside several global figures.
