RAJSHAHI, April 24, 2026 (BSS) – Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, today said the government is committed to distributing khas land under the Ministry of Land to genuine landless people.

He assured that poor families who have been living in a specific area for 40–45 years will be allotted khas land through the Deputy Commissioner.

Speaking to journalists at his residence in the city’s Padma Residential Area today, the minister made the remarks regarding the recent dispute over occupation and eviction involving vested property in the Pabnapara neighbourhood of the Nawdapara area.

The Land Minister said, “If eviction is to be carried out, at least six to seven days’ notice must be given. Without doing that, suddenly demolishing homes—as a human being, I consider that extremely unjust.”

He said the situation had arisen due to the failure of some officials who were previously in charge. He also noted that standing by helpless and destitute people is his moral responsibility, in line with his election promises.

During the interaction, the minister sharply criticised local land grabbers from the previous government’s tenure.

He said that during the previous government, land grabbers had attempted to seize the public property.

Calling for stronger legal action to resist false cases and harassment by land grabbers, he suggested forming a panel of local lawyers. He also announced personal financial assistance.

Regarding khas land, the Land Minister said that, if necessary, initiatives would be taken to allot one to two kathas of land to each family.

Earlier in the day, at 10am, landless people staged a sit-in and began a hunger strike unto death with three demands in front of the minister’s residence.

Later, the minister expressed solidarity with their demands and broke their hunger strike by offering them water.
