DHAKA, April 25, 2026 (BSS)- Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain paid a surprise visit to the 250-bed Munshiganj General Hospital to check the real situation of the hospital.

After visit and inspection, the minister has directed punitive action against three health officials following allegations of irregularities, a PID handout said today.

Responding to a media query about the measles situation, the minister said a significant number of children missed vaccination after regular measles-rubella campaigns were not conducted on time since 2020, leading to severe infections.

With support from Gavi, UNICEF and the World Health Organization, he said, the country has received 2 million vials, equivalent to 20 million doses of vaccines.

A nationwide immunization drive is now underway in phases, he said.
