DHAKA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has issued a strong warning to the opposition, urging them to refrain from any actions that could pave the way for the re-emergence of fascist forces in the country.
He delivered the warning on Sunday (April 26) while participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s speech in the Jatiya Sangsad, said an official handout here today.
At the same time, he reaffirmed his political roots, his commitment to his constituency, and his pledge to implement the spirit of the July movement.
Referring to his political identity, the state minister said, “I express my deep gratitude and respect to the founder of BNP Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. His ideals, honesty, and visionary leadership inspired me to join politics.”
“I have taken my lessons in public service following the path he showed, and today I have the opportunity to represent the people in this Parliament. After my father, I too can stand and speak in this Jatiya Sangsad. For that, my family and I remain eternally grateful to the Zia family,” he said.
Expressing deep emotion for the people of his constituency, Mymensingh-9 (Nandail), he said, “The soil and people of Nandail are the main source of my strength. I will always remember the utmost support and mandate given by every voter. Upholding the trust of the people is my prime responsibility. I will remain uncompromising in ensuring development and rights for the people of Nandail.”
He added that the people of Nandail had earlier elected his father, Anwar Hossain Khan Choudhury, to parliament, and similarly elected him as their representative.
The state minister said the dreams of a farmer, a youth, and a student in Nandail are his own dreams. He also informed parliament about the poor condition of around 1,250 kilometers of unpaved roads in the area and sought remedies from the concerned minister.
“We did not seek votes by selling dreams of heaven. Our main basis for seeking votes was our manifesto, which is the outcome of our Prime Minister’s well-thought-out vision,” he said.
Thanking the Prime Minister for withdrawing VIP movement privileges on roads, he said even the Prime Minister now waits at traffic signals, and people no longer have to suffer due to VIP movements.
Criticizing the activities of the opposition in parliament, he said, “Do not dig canals only to bring in crocodiles. Do not do anything that could allow old fascist forces to rise again in Bangladesh.”
He added, “If we fail to work together and take reckless decisions, it will create situation like inviting danger ourselves. Everyone must act responsibly to maintain stability in the country.”
Referring to the fall of the previous government, he said, quoting Rabindranath Tagore, “They reached such a stage in looting the wealth of the poor that they were forced to flee the country.” Warning the opposition, he added, “We must ensure that such a fate does not befall us.”
When opposition members responded by thumping desks in support, he cautioned them, saying, “You may applaud, but remember—if you lack foresight in politics, you too may face a similar outcome.”
Reaffirming commitment to implementing the “July National Charter” signed at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, he said BNP always fulfills its promises and there is no ‘if’ or ‘but’ in implementing this charter.
However, he warned that if anyone tries to treat the July Charter as personal property or divert public attention, it would be self-destructive.
He said, “Just as the Awami League considered the Liberation War of 1971 as its exclusive property, doing the same with the July Charter would be wrong and self-defeating. This is the people’s charter, not any party’s document.”
Calling for constructive politics, the state minister urged the opposition not to oppose for the sake of opposition. He also called for avoiding unnecessary controversies over the number of martyrs of the July movement.
“Even today, there are debates over the events of 1971. We do not want any new controversy over July to emerge 50 or 100 years later,” he said.
He finally called on the opposition alliance to engage in constructive political debate in parliament instead of creating new narratives of conspiracy, in the interest of the country’s future.
