DHAKA, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - The first meeting of Sub-Committees 1 and 2 of the Library Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its convener ABM Mosharraf Hossain in the chair.

Committee members Humam Quader Chowdhury, Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, and Akhter Hossen attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed allocations for books and periodicals as well as research expenditures for preservation in the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Library.

The sub-committees made recommendations on how to increase allocations in these sectors and ensure the optimal utilization of the allocated funds, said a press release.

Discussions were also held on the digitalization of old and rare documents and parliamentary debates preserved in the library, and on developing a searchable system to facilitate easy access to information. The meeting further reviewed a draft list of books proposed for procurement.

The sub-committees recommended that, prior to finalizing the book procurement list, Members of Parliament be invited-through the Speaker during parliamentary sessions-to submit lists of their preferred books.

The committee will then verify and finalize the list accordingly, which will also help assess MPs' research interests.

Additionally, the committee recommended organizing workshops for MPs at convenient times, to be funded from the library's research budget.

Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
