Parliamentary Library Sub-Committees hold first meetings

DHAKA, May 13, 2026 (BSS) – The first meetings of the 3rd and 4th sub-committees of the Library Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad were held today at the Parliament Library in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The meeting of the 3rd Sub-Committee was chaired by its convener Dr. Md. Mahabubur Rahman, MP. Committee members Nayab Yusuf Ahmed and Mohammad Nazibur Rahman attended the meeting, said a press release.

The meeting discussed the operation of the Bangladesh Institute of Parliamentary Studies (BIPS) under the Bangladesh Institute of Parliamentary Studies Act, 2001, including plans to integrate the National Parliament Library with the institute in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

The sub-committee also discussed presenting a comparative review of BIPS with parliamentary institutes of Asian and Commonwealth countries before the main committee.

To make BIPS operational, the sub-committee recommended amending, updating and revising the Bangladesh Institute of Parliamentary Studies Act, 2001 and placing the proposals before the Library Committee.

The committee also recommended advising the main committee to take steps for selecting a suitable location for establishing BIPS and appointing a rector for the institute.

Meanwhile, another press release said the first meeting of the 4th Sub-Committee was chaired by its convener Mohammad Nazibur Rahman, MP. Committee member Nayab Yusuf Ahmed attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the “National Parliament Library Rules 2012” and the “National Parliament Research Policy 2023”.

The sub-committee recommended necessary amendments, additions, deletions and revisions to the National Parliament Library Rules 2012 before placing the proposals before the main committee.

It also directed officials concerned to further revise and update the National Parliament Research Policy 2023 and present the revised draft at the next meeting.

Officials concerned of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at both meetings.
