DHAKA, May 16, 2026, (BSS) - World Hypertension Day will be observed tomorrow in Bangladesh, alongside other countries across the globe, through various programmes.

The theme of this year's observance is: "Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer".

As a member of the World Hypertension League, the Hypertension Committee of the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh has been observing the day since 2006 on May 17 every year.

According to the WHO's 2025 report, around 283,800 people died from cardiovascular diseases in Bangladesh in 2024, of which 52 percent were attributed to high blood pressure.

More than 10 million people die globally every year due to hypertension, exceeding the total number of deaths caused by all infectious diseases combined.

According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) "Health and Morbidity Status Survey-2025", high blood pressure ranks first among the top 10 diseases in Bangladesh.

Marking the occasion, the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute will organise a seminar tomorrow at 10 am at the Foundation's hall room in Mirpur-2.

Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni will attend the programme as the chief guest, while President of the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh Professor Khondaker Abdul Awal Rizvi will preside over the event.
