NLASO provides legal assistance in 4, 66,148 cases since 2009

DHAKA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) -The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal assistance in 4, 66,148 cases at government expense, according to a report published on the organization’s website here today.

The report highlighted the detailed statistics on legal aid services delivered from 2009 to April 2026 under the state-funded legal aid program.

According to the report, 3,400 cases received assistance through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, while 4, 58,108 cases were handled by legal aid offices in  64 districts of the country. In addition, 4,640 cases were supported through the labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The report also stated that a total of 5, 74,278 people received legal counseling services free of cost from the organization during the period.

Among them, 27,167 people obtained assistance through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 3, 20,753 through district legal aid offices and 22,153 through the labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram respectively.

Furthermore, 2, 04,205 people received legal advice through the government’s toll-free national legal aid helpline “16699”.

The services are being provided under the Legal Aid Services Act to support the financially insolvent and disadvantaged justice seekers across the country. 

The legal aid activities are operated under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
