JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Union today demanded an emergency syndicate meeting to expedite the trial and punishment of teachers accused of taking positions against students during the July Mass Uprising.

The demand was made in a press release signed by the organisation's General Secretary Faizan Ahmed Arko.

In the statement, the organisation said it would not tolerate any negligence in the trial process and expressed concern that despite a long time having passed since the uprising, the accused teachers had yet to face final disciplinary action.

The student body also alleged that efforts were underway to delay the process and warned that any attempt to shield the accused through procrastination would be resisted with student participation.

It urged the university administration to immediately convene an emergency syndicate meeting to complete the trial process and bring the accused teachers under administrative and legal action.

The organisation further demanded swift measures to ensure justice for those killed and injured during the July movement.

JU Chhatra Union President Adri Ankur said they had long been demanding justice over the alleged attack on students on July 15 during the mass uprising, claiming that pro-Awami League teachers had supported the incident at the Vice-Chancellor's residence.

He alleged that the investigation report against the accused teachers, which was expected to be placed at the upcoming syndicate meeting scheduled for May 21, would not be discussed there, citing remarks made by the vice-chancellor at a recent press briefing.

He also said the ongoing movement by female students should not be used as a pretext to delay the judicial process and reiterated the demand for an emergency syndicate meeting to ensure prompt action against those found responsible.
