DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit today inaugurated drilling of an appraisal-cum-development well at Kamta Gas field, Gazipur.

It is expected that about 10 million cubic feet daily (mmcfd) of gas could be added to the national grid after the drilling and testing of Kamta-2 well completion, Amit said while inaugurating the drilling.

Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) under Petrobangla has been implementing the drilling activities expected to be complete in six months.

The government has been taken up four appraisal-cum-development well drilling projects at Titas and Kamta fields to increase gas production from domestic sources, reduce dependence on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and strengthen energy security, Amit said.

According to the project details, the ECNEC approved the project on February 2 at an estimated cost of Tk.1,255 crore, of which the government will finance Tk. 872.20 crore while the BGFCL Tk. 382.80 crore.

Under the project, three wells will be drilled at Titas field and one at Kamta field, foreign consultants will be appointed, construction of gas gathering pipeline in Titas and installation of process plant in Kamta, along with ancillary works.

Petrobangla chairman Md Abdul Mannan, BGFCL chairman Mohammad Mohsin, BGFCL Managing Director Engineer Md Abdul Jalil Pramanik and others concerned were present.
