DHAKA, May 28, 2026 (BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin today called upon all to work together for building a just, democratic, non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh imbued with the ideals and values of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

The Head of the State made the call in a message issued on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims.

“Let us uphold the great ideals of Eid-ul-Azha in our hearts, inspired by the spirit of unity instead of division, compassion instead of violence, justice instead of selfishness, and equality instead of discrimination,” he said.

In a video message recorded at Bangabhaban on the morning of Eid, the President conveyed his heartfelt greetings and ‘Eid Mubarak’ to the countrymen as well as the Muslim community across the world.

He said Eid-ul-Azha strengthens the values of sacrifice, fraternity, harmony and social solidarity among people. At the same time, the festival carries a timeless and universal message of sacrificing hatred, arrogance and the beastly instincts within oneself.

President Shahabuddin also urged people to share the joy of Eid with the poor and underprivileged as well as with relatives and neighbours.

The Head of State further called upon the affluent section of society to come forward to ensure the rightful entitlements of the helpless and disadvantaged people.

Emphasising environmental awareness and protection of public health, the President made a special appeal to the countrymen to cooperate fully with the authorities in the quick disposal of sacrificial waste and maintaining cleanliness everywhere.

Later at noon, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and his spouse Dr Rebecca Sultana exchanged Eid greetings at Bangabhaban with people from different walks of life.

Cabinet members, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), judges, Cabinet Secretary, chiefs of the armed forces, ambassadors of different countries, Bangladesh Bank Governor, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and secretaries concerned to the President’s Office were present at the reception that began at 11am at Durbar Hall.

Distinguished personalities, senior politicians, writers, journalists, teachers, intellectuals and high-ranking civil and military officials, among others, also joined the programme.

Earlier, at around 7:30am, the President offered Eid prayers at the National Eidgah and joined the munajat there.

He exchanged Eid greetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and members of the council of advisers, and also greeted the devotees present there.
