
DHAKA, June 25, 2026 (BSS) – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to increase the amount of merit scholarships and educational assistance provided to the children of its officers and employees to support their education, talent development, and access to higher education.
The decision was announced at the 69th meeting of the Employee Welfare Fund Management Council held yesterday at the UGC headquarters here. The meeting was chaired by UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasised the importance of ensuring the socio-economic security of officers and employees while providing effective support for the educational advancement and intellectual development of their children.
He said increasing educational assistance would contribute to family stability, which would have a direct positive impact on employees’ concentration and productivity in the workplace.
The meeting unanimously approved a proposal to provide Tk 6,92,500 in assistance for merit scholarships, general scholarships, and examination fees for the children of UGC officers and employees.
In addition, the council approved Tk 5,64,055 for the personal medical treatment of officers and employees and Tk 3,72,692 as medical assistance for their family members.
Among others, UGC members Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Professor Dr. Masuma Habib, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam, UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, its Director and President of the Officers’ Association Md. Omar Farukh, President of the UGC Employees’ Union Md. Nazmul Hasan, and other relevant officials were present at the meeting.
