Mirza Fakhrul mourns death of Jamiruddin Sircar

DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of veteran politician and former acting President Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.

In a condolence message issued today, the BNP secretary general said, "With his death, the country has lost an illustrious and experienced politician. A deep void has been created in the political arena."

Jamiruddin Sircar will always be remembered with respect by the people of the country for his dedication to securing people's democratic rights throughout his illustrious political career, beginning with the Language Movement of 1952, he added.

Mirza Fakhrul said that after being elected to parliament several times, Jamiruddin Sircar, as an experienced parliamentarian, added a new dimension to parliamentary politics in the country.

He said the nation would never forget his leading role in development activities while he served in important government positions at different times.

He further said that throughout his political life, his contributions to the state and society as a colleague of figures ranging from Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman were undeniable.

"He was a living history of contemporary politics. His death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow across the country," Mirza Fakhrul said.

The BNP secretary general prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul of Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, relatives, admirers and well-wishers.
