New 11-bed ICU-1 unit inaugurated at BMU

DHAKA, Sep 05, 2026 (BSS) - A new 11-bed ICU-1 unit has been inaugurated at the Block-C of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU).

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of BMU Professor Dr FM Siddiqui inaugurated the 11-bed ICU-1 unit on the 10th floor of the university's Block-C at Professor Dr Samad Seminar Hall today.

On the occasion, he also distributed certificates among 81 nurses who completed five batches of the Critical Care Nursing Training Programme.

The programme was chaired by Prof Dr Md Mostafa Kamal, chairman of the Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine and Registrar of the BMU.

BMU Pro-VC (Research and Development) Prof Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Prof Dr Md Monir Hossain Khan, President of Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka Rotarian Khalid Hasan, among others, addressed the event.

In his chief guest's speech, FM Siddiqui said the quality of healthcare and medical management of a hospital depends on doctor and nurses.

He said trained and skilled nursing services are essential for caring for critically ill patients. Every moment of nursing care is important here, the VC added.

He said such training programmes would continue to be conducted in the interest of patients.

Mujibur Rahman Hawlader said nursing is a highly skilled and noble profession in the world.

The BMU administration is working to ensure that nurses can give their utmost in patient care through knowledge, training and the acquisition of skills, he added.
